I'm really bad at names, apparently - Edelweiss had to remind me the names of Eileen's two donkeys: Tony and Joey. Both of them are relatively small (apparently the ones I rode in the philipines were a large asian break). One of them is white, and is more or less her original donkey. Eileen has had it since it was a wee small thing, apparently. The other donkey is brown, smaller, and is an Irish breed.
Both donkeys are fed off of waste fruit from some family of humans - they throw out fruit that has gone bad in copious quantities, and she made an agreement with them to supply her with their waste fruit. Other than the treat of the fruits, the donkeys graze on the fields they wander on (what i have termed "donkeyland"). According to Eileen they can be quite scary to new WWOOFers, as they tend to crowd new people, and communicate through nipping, which is friendlier to fellow donkeys than to thin-skinned humans.
One thing that struck me is that donkeys have absurdly large heads for the rest of them. Very out-of-proportion. I think this makes them look wonky in a silly sort of way, Edelweiss thinks this makes them look wonky in an ugly sort of way.
The two of them have the downhill part of the farm to themselves, and spend most of their time grazing. Edelweiss thinks they are a bit fat from the constant grazing and meals of fruit - for my part, I have no ability to judge what is fat for a donkey. Edelweiss also thinks Rocky is fat, but while I can't tell under all that fur, she certainly seems quite energetic. So if she is fat, she's certainly not overly fat.
